1361. PM unveils ₹12,000 crore projects in Bihar, vows anti-graft law, action on infiltrators
- On August 22, 2025, Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of ₹12,000-crore projects in Gaya, Bihar. These included the Buxar Thermal Power Plant, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, a six-lane Ganga bridge, water and sewage projects, and new trains — the Amrit Bharat Express and the Buddhist Circuit Train.
- PM emphasized that the projects would boost energy, transport, healthcare, and urban infrastructure, creating jobs and strengthening Bihar’s industrial base. He handed over PMAY houses, reaffirming his pledge of “pucca homes for all”. He also announced a new anti-corruption law covering even top leaders, ensuring accountability through strict bail provisions.
- Touching on security and demographics, PM highlighted Operation Sindoor against Pakistan-backed terror and vowed to expel infiltrators threatening Bihar’s border districts. He praised CM teacher recruitment drive and the renaming of Gaya as ‘Gaya Ji’.
1362. Phey Village in Ladakh Gets Tap Water Supply for the First Time Under Jal Jeevan Mission
- Each and every household of the Phey village of Leh now has access to tap water supply even during winters, thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission. A villager said, "Every household gets timely good-quality tap water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission, even during winters, with the help of solar panels."
- Working in line with 'SabkaSath, SabkaVikas, SabkaVishwas and SabkaPrayas', Jal Jeevan Mission's motto is 'no one is left out' and it aims at universal access to the potable tap water supply. At the start of the mission in 2019, out of a total of 19.20 Crore rural households in the country, only 3.23 Crore (17 per cent) had tap water supply.
- Despite Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns disruptions, Jal Jeevan Mission has been implemented with speed and today, 5.50 Crore rural households have been provided with tap water connections. Presently, 8.74 Crore (45.5 per cent) rural households across the country have tap water supply.

1363. Ladakh’s Border Villages Get Tap Water for the First Time, Even in Extreme Cold
- Households in all villages in a 174-km arc from Chushul to Demchok and Chumar, tracing the inhabited stretch of the LAC with China in Ladakh, have now tap water even at –40 degrees Centigrade, thanks to the Centre’s Jal Jeevan Mission.
- Households in Man-Merak on the southern bank of Pangong lake, opposite Finger 4 where Indian and Chinese troops eyeballed each other months ago, have started getting taps.
- So far, 11,000 taps have been installed in the Leh district since, marking a saturation of 47%. This is a noteworthy achievement, given the mountainous geography, isolated habitations – including those without road access – and extreme weather, with temperature dropping to – 40 degrees centigrade and snow burying roads.
- Demchok Numberdar Karma Eshay summed up the result by describing it as a life-altering freedom from the burden of fetching water in the morning, especially during the harsh winter.

1364. 21 Ladakh Villages Achieve 100% Tap Water Access Under Jal Jeevan Mission
- Since Independence, nearly 21 villages are for the first time now fully tapped water connected. Work of Jal Jeevan Mission is in full swing in Ladakh in all villages and 21 villages so far have achieved ‘Har Ghar Jal’ status by providing 100% tap connections to all the households.
- Four blocks namely Thiksey (82%), Saspol (77%), Thaisuru (54.5%) and Drass (56%) are the leading blocks in providing tap connections and they are expected to achieve 100% target soon.
- The first 20 villages and 2 blocks would be provided reward funds of Rs 5 lakh and 25 lakh respectively on achieving 100% saturation. For that, the villages need to declare themselves 100% connected in a gram sabha meeting which is pending from many villages despite 100% coverage.

1365. Ladakh's Lungnak Block Becomes First in Zanskar to Achieve 100% Tap Water Coverage
- On 25 July 2023, in Ladakh, the Lungnak Block of the Zanskar sub-division Kargil district has achieved 100 percent coverage of water connection under the Jal Jeevan Mission to all the households of every village of the block.
- With this significant milestone in water supply in rural villages, Lungnak has become the first block in Ladakh to ensure "Har Ghar Nal Se Jal" (tap water supply) under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme.
- The present 75 percent coverage of water connection to rural Ladakh, which is a notable transformation despite several challenges, Union Territory Ladakh now ranks 16th among all the States and UTs in the country.
- Four of the 31 blocks of Union Territory namely Saspol and Thiksey in Leh district and Drass and Bhimbat Drass in Kargil district have achieved 90 percent of households in water connection.

1366. Government Boosts Digital Connectivity in Jammu Kashmir: Rs 563.58 Crore Sanctioned, 20,441 Km Fibre Laid
- The Government of India has significantly expanded digital and telecom infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, with over Rs 563.58 crore sanctioned for mobile services and a massive 20,441 route kilometres of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) laid across the Union Territory.
- The Comprehensive Annual Modular Survey (CAMS) 2022–23 showed that 94.2 percent of rural households and 97.1 percent of urban households in India had mobile or telephone connections.Usage among those aged 15–24 years in rural areas rose from 92.6 percent in 2022–23 to 96.9 percent in 2025.
- To strengthen mobile networks, the Centre has commissioned 21,748 mobile towers across India under 4G saturation and rural projects, with JK among the focus regions due to its connectivity challenges.

1367. India flash PMI surges to 65.2 in August on record services, mfg growth
- On august 21, 2025, India’s private sector economy recorded its fastest growth since the start of survey data in December 2005, with the headline HSBC Flash India Composite PMI Output Index rising over four points to 65.2 from 61.1 in July, according to S&P Global
- Both sectors grew faster, led by services, with the HSBC Flash India Services PMI hitting a record 65.6, up from 60.5 last month.
- The HSBC Flash India Manufacturing PMI rose to 59.8 in August from 59.1 in July, its highest reading since January 2008, signalling faster improvement in factory operating conditions.

1368. Railway Ministry readies ₹48,692-crore DPR for Tanakpur–Bageshwar Line in Uttarakhand
- On august 21, 2025, The Ministry of Railways has completed the survey and prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Tanakpur–Bageshwar new line. The proposed line, with a length of 170 km, has been assessed at a cost of ₹48,692 crore
- Minister stated average yearly allocation between 2009 and 2014 stood at ₹187 crore, while in 2025–26 it is expected to be ₹4,641 crore.
- As of 1 April 2025, three new lines covering a total length of 216 km have been sanctioned in Uttarakhand at an estimated cost of ₹40,384 crore.
1369. NHAI okays 6-lane elevated corridor to ease Chennai traffic
- On August 19, 2025, it was reported the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has given its approval for the construction of a new six-lane elevated corridor from Poonamallee to Maduravoyal in Chennai. NHAI floated a tender for the 8.1-kilometer elevated corridor, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,250 crore
- In addition to the Poonamallee-Maduravoyal flyover, another 13-kilometer corridor is planned to link the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with Sriperumbudur. This project is expected to significantly reduce travel time, allowing commuters to cover a 22-kilometer distance in less than 20 minutes.
- NHAI’s infrastructure development efforts in the state also include the construction of a new four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass within the Nagapattinam-Thanjavur section of NH83. This bypass, which will be executed under the hybrid annuity model, has a project cost of Rs 796 crore.

1370. ISRO completed almost double missions in 2015-2025 than in 2005-2015: Chairman V Narayanan
- On august 21, 2025, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan said that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched almost double the number of missions between 2015 to 2025 than the ones launched between 2005 to 2015 phenomenal and exponential.
- During the February 2025 to August 2025 three important missions were completed. Axiom 4 mission is a very prestigious mission, successfully accomplished. First Indian to be brought back safely from the international Space Station (ISS),
- Since the launch of rocket in 21 November 1963 from the Thumba area near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, ISRO has launched 133 satellites missions, 102 launch vehicle missions, 5 technology demonstration mission, and 4217 rockets, and carried out 240 total number of missions. Moreover, 433 satellites of 34 countries have been launched in India.
